Time for an update. It is now about 38 days left of my time in Germany. So many nice memories. Here is a collection of images taken over the last 4 years...
---------------------------------------------
The view from our lab at IFIB overlooking the Schwaibian Alp's
The castle in Tuebingen where supposedly the first DNA was isolated, in the kitchen
The castle from the other side
A small part of the river Neckar in the city center
Each spring the Magnolias are blooming, not something we Swedes are used of
Every spring they have a "Stocherkahn" race here in Tubingen. Normally about 60 tams participate and it is a big party. The winner gets a free party, and the looser the privilege to arrange the race next year and to drink fish liver oil (more than you can handle)
Sometimes even Tuebingen has snow...
The view from the apartment at Scheefstrasse one Winter day
After about three years at Scheefstrasse I moved to Lustnau. This is the church in Lustnau

Our borrowed pet at Scheefstrasse, a vegetarian cat
Laundry bag with cat, not an optimal solution
-----------------------------
Enough of the Tuebingen/apartment photos. Here are some work, or work related, photos
-------------------------------
Me on my first trip to the Swiss Light Source for measuring crystals. A bit lost among all the cables, computer screens and diffraction patterns
At least one that new what he was doing... Thilo that is...
The mounting of a crystal in the X-ray beam
Eventually I did learn the crystal measuring business and could go without Thilo. This is in Grenoble, perfect location for a synchrotron (ESRF)
This time with Dirk and Karolina. Germany vs. Scandinavia 1-2
Given the location of Grenoble skiing was a must. Alp d'Huez
A tunnel to what? and why? We had to test it, what else to do?
Dau! Hmm... black diamond moguls. Karolina "one mogul" down
Karolina two moguls down
Occasionally we also did some work. This is ID2, a SAXS beamline
Fajun preparing a SAXS experiment
On a Biacore workshop in Heidelberg.
The old border between East-and West-Germany was visited on the HEC9 meeting
----------------------------
Not all was "work" here are some pictures from lab excursions
--------------------------
The First Stehle excursion, canoeing..
A small rest during a hike iin Schwarzwald: the second Stehle excursion
That excursion also included swimming and camping
Excursion 2009, camping at Kirnbergsee
Excursion 2009
Also in Germany they do celebrate X-mas. I am not sure when since Thilo is a fan of moving X-mas around. This year, 2007, was it around Easter. In 2005 was it actually before X-mas but in 2008 was it in late june...
Thilo and I
--------------------------------
2006 was Germany the host for the world cup in Soccer. Not the funniest period to be a Swede in Germany (Sweden was kicked out by Germany)
-----------------------------
Sweden vs. Trinidad Tobeigo at Schlossplats in Stuttgart
And then the same place but Germany vs. Portugal (the game for the third place)
And finally a Germany game that we watched at the "anlagensee" in Tuebingen
------------------------
From time to time there where also concerts and festivals...
-----------------------
Mmmm Beer... Katrin at the Marburg campus invation
Mano Diao at the Marburg Campus Invation
The Prodigy at Sonisphere at Hockenheim 2009
A big German band, not too bad actually, Die Tote Hosen
And ofc the main event: METALLICA!!!
--------------------------
Since we are in the party part of this presentatio: here are some party pics
------------------------
One of several bbq-parties at our huge terrace at Scheefstrasse

On the way to that party: Sonja, me and Shawn
Like Octoberfest but in Stuttgart, BIG BEERS
The group that went there plus lots of others...
---------------------------
In the center of Europe you just simply have to make some trips, unfortunately not enough where made...
--------------------------
Jenny doing the "sound of music" near Reutlingen on our second visit to Tuebingen
I did a small visit to Oxford. This is a building that has been used for various Harry Potter scenes

During one extended weekend in Lausanne....
View over the Alps from Lausanne, even better then Grenoble
Me at the highest peak in Germany, Zugspitze in Garmisch

A photo from one of several weekends that I have visited Uli to relax and shoot some bow. Here with Shawn

Uli's husband has a huge interest in Lizzards. This is one of them...
A hippo in Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart during a warm spring day
----------------------------
From time to time friends and family visited
-------------------------
The Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart with Jenny's parents
The porsche museum

Why make something easy, the castle from the outside
One more castle, lots of them down here. I have no idea which one...
The castle of all the castles was visited during a visit by Jonas and Em
Neu Schwanstein
Jenny and my brother at Hohenzollern
A small hike with the entire family after my dissertation.
The same weekend at Schwarzwaldhochstrasse
The last visit was by my parents and we did a long hike in the Donau valley. This is close to the starting point, a big monastery.
Me and my mother relaxing after a 30 min climb
---------------------
Eventually I did it, finished my PhD. The lucky date of independence is the 4:th of July 2008
--------------------
Me in front of my dissertation gift from Seb, A 2007 Ford Mustang GT with a 300 hk V8
